Coronavirus Update - Gym Temporarily Closing

 

Well, the time has come.  The Prime Minister of Japan and the Tokyo Governor have declared a State of Emergency for Tokyo due to the Coronavirus situation. 

To abide by the Government's request and restrictions, Chikara will be closed beginning on Saturday, April 11th until further notice. 

Schedule

We will have the following schedule changes the remainder of this week:

Thursday, 09 April - Open Gym from 6am - 9pm

Friday, 10 April - Open Gym from 6am - 7pm

Coronavirus Update

 

As you know, there have been confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Japan. The number of confirmed cases in Japan has been small but steadily increasing. We have been closely monitoring the Japanese government's recommendations and policies in regards to preventing the spread of the infection. 

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Tokyo Metropolitan Governor Yuriko Koike held an emergency press conference on Wednesday at which she requested all residents to refrain from going out over the weekend unless for necessities or emergency situations.

Foundations: The First Step on Your CrossFit Journey

 

Foundations is an introductory course for new members that teaches the simplest movements they need to know to begin training in group classes at Chikara.

They learn how to squat, lift from the floor and press overhead with a barbell.

Simple Gymnastics movements like push ups, pull ups, dips and box jumps are introduced, as well as running and skipping technique. Equipment commonly used in training, particularly the rower and air bike are also introduced.

Answers to your Open Questions

 

We have gotten a lot of questions about the Open.  Here are the answers. 

1.) The Open is for everyone!

2.) There are 5 workouts spanning 5 weeks

3.) Workouts are released on Friday mornings in Japan and the deadline for score submission is the following Tuesday morning

4.) Scaled and Rx versions of each workout are available

5.) Choosing to do scaled on one work out does not mean you have to do scaled on all workouts (and vice versa)

Level Method

 

What is the Level Method?

The Level Method provides clear, tangible metrics to track the development of your fitness. It does this by using a collection of 15 assessments that cover a broad range of physical skills. These assessments are broken down into a series of 23 levels laid out across the MAP (Method for Athletic Progression).

The Level Method MAP provides a visualization on how you rank on each individual assessment, as well as your overall level (color) based on the aggregate of all 15 assessments. This is similar to the belt system from martial arts.
